Tourmakeady huddle together and contemplate the future after their hard-earned win in Glencorrib.
JUNIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP GROUP 2
Shrule Glencorrib 0-9
Tourmakeady 1-7
GLENCORRIB
THIS was championship football in its most beautiful, rawest form. Two proud clubs going head-to-head in a must-win battle in a perfect setting under sunny skies. There was passion aplenty from gun to tape with every turnover, free, interception or mistake cheered to the heavens.
Tourmakeady got the perfect start when they launched an attack from the throw-in and Padraig Lydon's shot ended up in the net despite the best efforts of home goalkeeper John Murray.
The Gaeltacht men were still in front at the break as they enjoyed a 1-4 to 0-6 lead thanks to points from Mairtin Carr, Darren Kelly and two from Lydon.
The home side were well in contention after Evan Cawley kicked four frees, and Eoghan Hennelly and Brendan Ryan landed points.
That set things up wonderfully for the second half and goal chances came and went at each end and the one-point gap remained into the final six minutes.
Both sides were angered by some of the decisions given against them as the half progressed before a pointed free from Ronan Malee nudged Tourmak' two clear.
Once again, Shrule Glencorrib powered forward looking for a way back into it and Brendan Ryan closed the gap to one again as time ticked away. It seemed as if they were about to draw level but Tourmakeady went forward and Aaron Tolan Jennings forced Murray into a great save in injury time.
That left time for the home boys to launch one last surge forward and two difficult late frees failed to hit the target before the final whistle unleashed scenes of wild delight for the men in black.
