Six Nations: Ireland play Wales to continue dream start

Caelan Doris fit after resting during the week to take part in the hunt for back-to-back Grand Slams

Six Nations: Ireland play Wales and can continue dream start

Lacken-man Doris had to sit out a training session after sustaining a couple of knocks against Italy

There were a few question marks around Caelan Doris during the week, the primary one being would he be called fit to play against Celtic rivals Wales on Saturday?

The former Ballina-player had a blood-stained jersey after the Italy match. It seemed not only the Italian team took a battering on the scoreboard, Doris himself had to put in a very physical shift and it seemed he needed a little rest.

It would have been unusual for Doris to miss a match, he has proven to be a household name for Ireland coach Andy Farrell, starting every important match in the last two years, mostly playing the full 80 minutes.

A match from the sidelines would have been a disappointment for Doris especially after his first match as Ireland captain, for which he received the warmest congratulations by his home county.

Also Doris was instrumental in Ireland demolishing France in the opening night.

But he is good to go and with captain Peter O'Mahony back in the squad, Doris will take up his favourite position as number eight again, having played flanker against Italy.

With a bonus-point win, Ireland would not only remain in contention for first ever back-to-back Grand Slams but Doris and his teammates would stay on course to make Six Nations history by being the first team ever to win the tournament with five bonus-point-victories.
