NEW Mayo senior ladies manager Liam McHale has said that any player taking a break from the county panel is welcome to re-join the squad.

At present, McHale is without the services of 2023 panel members Deirdre Doherty, Clodagh McManamon, Sarah Mulvihill, Maria Reilly, Sarah Tierney, Rachel Kearns and Shauna Howley.

Former Mayo seniors Sarah Rowe, Grace Kelly, Niamh Kelly and Aileen Gilroy are also unavailable due to AFLW commitments.

When asked if they would feature for the Mayo team in 2024, McHale said that the players were currently on a ‘break’ from intercounty football.

“The way life is now and the pressures that these young people are under with exams and work and travelling and all sorts of things I’m not going to put any pressure on anybody,” McHale told The Mayo News.

“This is hard going. You have three football sessions a week, two gym sessions a week, a lot of travelling. So I’m not going to put any pressure on anybody. All of the girls that we have talked to, this is two or three months ago at this stage, all the girls we’ve talked to, we’ve told them they are welcomed to come back in whenever they feel fit to do it.”
