Just hours out from the EGM of the Mayo Football League, it has been confirmed that one of the two candidates for the job of secretary has pulled out of the race.

The EGM at the Castlecourt Hotel in Westport will see nine committee members elected to roles.

One of the elections that has received attention in the build-up is the secretary role.

Two people were vying for the seat at the table.

John Durkan is one of those names and has been in the secretary role for over 30 years. Martin Kielty was the other, having recently served as recording secretary on the board of Mayo FC.

However, the vote is now a one-horse race, as Kielty has withdrawn his name from the list, leaving John Durkan as the sole candidate.
