With the sacking of Manchester United’s manager Ruben Amorim causing big news headlines right across the football world, an opportunity has opened up for one man who has deep Mayo roots.

It has been confirmed that former Manchester United player and Scottish international Darren Fletcher will take over the reins for the short term at least as the Scotsman takes the role of interim manager. 

Fletcher has links to Achill through his mother (Bridie) who is a native of Dooagh in Achill. 

Fletcher's sons, Jack and Tyler are emerging as prospects for the Manchester club as Jack made his debut for the club recently in the Premier League tie against Aston Villa while Tyler has been on the bench in numerous games.
