SOCCER ROUND-UP: Goals galore across the Mayo League as one league produced 30 goals

All smiles as Westport United sit top of the league

It was another fantastic weekend in the Mayo soccer scene as Westport United and Castlebar Celtic continued their winning form in the Super League, and one division saw 30 goals go in across just four games.

Here, we’ll try and summarise the encounters.

Super League

The recently crowned Connacht Cup champions, Castlebar Celtic, continued their winning form when they ran out convincing 6-1 winners over Ballinrobe Town.

The hosts were dealt a hammer blow in the first half as they had to play the final 55 minutes with ten men.

Manulla hosted Ballina Town, but they produced a goalless stalemate. In a West Mayo derby, Westport United were 5-0 up at the break after they blitzed Glenhest Rovers in the opening half.

The guests pulled one back thanks to Paddy Mulchrone after the resumption, and the game finished 5-1 in Westport’s favour. Ballyheane had an important win over bottom-of-the-table Ballyhaunis. A hat trick from Sean Rabbette meant the hosts ran out comfortable 4-0 winners.

Conn Rangers were in goalscoring form as they beat Kiltimagh/Knock 7-0 on their travels. 

Premier Division

It was goals galore in this league as 30 goals went in across four games. A youthful Castlebar Celtic B side won 6-3 in a thriller with Straide & Foxford as Jake Daly registered an impressive hat-trick.

Dan O’Malley scored five as Westport United B ran out 6-4 winners over Ballyglass in what was a magical game. Claremorris put five past Iorras Aontaithe, as a 5-2 scoreline was enough for the hosts to claim victory.

In a relegation scrap, Ballyheane B came out on top in Killala when they claimed a 3-1 win on their travels.

League One

Second-placed Swinford registered a vital win over Claremorris B when they ran out 3-2 victors in a competitive affair. A brace from Patrick O’Connell helped Fahy Rovers to a 5-1 win over Partry Athletic. Top of the table Ballina Town B had a fine 3-0 win over Bangor Hibs, while Conn Rangers B and Snugboro couldn't be separated after the 90 minutes, with the sides finishing 3-3.

League Two

Glenhest Rovers B scored two in two minutes as they came from behind to beat Manulla B 2-1. In an end-to-end clash, Fahy Rovers B secured victory over Crossmolina B as the scoreline of 5-4 amazed many.

There was another 5-4 win in this division when Ballinrobe Town came out victorious over Conn Rangers while league leaders Achill Rovers ran out 3-0 winners with Michael Moran scoring a brace as they dispatched Westport United C.

Super Cup

A good second-half showing from Ballyheane saw them progress to the semi-finals after they conquered Manulla with a 2-0 victory.

Mayo FC

Mayo U-17’s suffered a narrow defeat to Dundalk in the Mark Farren Cup, with the visitors coming from behind to claim a 2-1 victory. John Macklin had Mayo in the lead after 13 minutes, but the visitors turned it around in the second half.
