Ballyheane FC has lost its appeal to the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) following a protracted dispute with the Mayo League.
The appeal, centred on a disciplinary ruling that punished the club for failing to release players for the Mayo Oscar Traynor Cup squad, was dismissed by the FAI on a procedural technicality.

The original sanctions, imposed by the Mayo League Disciplinary Committee (MLDC), included a €1,000 fine, 12-month bans for four club officials, and a two-year suspension of Ballyheane players from county selection.
Ballyheane’s appeal to the Connacht FA was rejected due to an alleged failure to notify the Mayo League correctly — a claim the club disputes. The FAI then rejected Ballyheane’s further appeal on similar procedural grounds.
The club maintains that no rule compels teams to release players for the competition and argues the punishment is excessive and unjust. Sources suggest legal action is now being considered, despite the potential financial cost.
