A fine purple patch early doors, coupled with a goal either side of half-time, paved the way for way for a comfortable Glenhest Rovers win over Ballyhaunis Town.

Ballyhaunis may have shown flashes of brilliance late on, including a goal midway through Act Two, however their goose was well cooked by then, and they remain winless this campaign.

It didn’t take Glenhest long to open the scoring. They may not have capitalised on the first cross into the danger zone three minutes in, but they improved their accuracy with devastating effect at the next attempt.

A probing cross from Paul McLoughlin was taken down in the box by skipper Pat Mulchrone, who turned on a sixpence to find the far right corner.

Going one up gave them a real boost, and the men from Bertra kept the foot on the gas, aggressively pressing forward.

With 19 gone, the men in navy doubled their advantage. Eoin Wright’s probing ball in found its way to Neil Kirby.

Kirby’s shot was well-saved by Ljuno Spajic, but he couldn’t do a whole lot from the resulting corner, as Cillian Murphy rose to nod back across the face of goal and into the bottom left corner.

There wasn’t much to take from the opening half for those making the journey from far east, apart from when Glenhest net-minder Eoghan McManamon had to smother an effort from James Powers.

Isaac Owosu was given an open-net for the guests, however the angle was always going to be too acute even for the most prolific of finishers.

The third and fourth Glenhest goals came within seconds of either side of half-time. First, Mulchrone trapped the ball well before picking the opposite bottom corner on the verge of the whistle, before Levi Barrett capitalised on an error to tap in early doors in Act Two.

The visitors did muster up some response and carved out a few opportunities, one of which was turned in by Brazilian substitute Marcos Gabriel Luiz with 23 to go. However, the result was never in doubt as the clock inched towards full time.
