Another win for Mayo U-16 girls

UNBEATEN Mayo U-16s hit three goals against Galway on Saturday

The Mayo U-16 girls defeated Galway 3-1 in Umbro Park, Milebush on Saturday afternoon in their latest Interleague clash to build on their recent strong showing against Clare.

The home side took the lead after eight minutes when good build-up play by Ellie Dunleavy and Katie Hughes created the opening for Aoibhinn McNamara to fire home. Five minutes later they doubled their lead when Zainab Naeem scored from the penalty spot after being fouled herself. After 29 minutes Riona Moynihan dispatched Mayo’s second penalty to leave the hosts leading 3-0 at half-time.

Galway hit back with a penalty of their own in the second half and both teams went close to adding to their tally, but there were no more goals before the finish. The victory leaves the team managed by Emma Gibbons and Kian Flanagan in a good position going into the third round.
