A hat trick of second-half goals for Galway United was enough to seal the victory against a spirited Mayo side.
The visitors played the better football in the opening period but Mayo goalkeeper, Sarah Gallagher, made some exceptional saves in the opening period, keeping her side in the game.
Mayo struggled to create chances, their best coming in the 38th minute through a free kick from Roisin Horkan, which was just over the crossbar.
The Mayo defence made some vital interceptions in the first half to prevent Galway from scoring an opener, and despite the excellent play and mountains of pressure from the visitors, the scoreline at half=time was 0-0.
However, less than two minutes into the second period, Galway found the back of the net with an excellent strike from Katie Glynn. The visitors were applying extreme pressure and deservedly scored their second goal with 67 minutes on the clock. This time, player of the match, Sophie Hogan, showcased some excellent skill to find the back of the net. Galway sealed the victory only a minute later when they found their third goal of the game through substitute, Rebecca Rooney.
Led by the excellent Roisin Horkan, Mayo battled hard, but chances were few and far between for the home side, as Galway United left Milebush with all three points.
