MAYO man David Courell is set to be appointed as permanent CEO of the Football Association of Ireland (FAI).
The Castlebar native will take over the FAI’s top job permanently following a six-month stint as interim CEO.
On Thursday, the board of the FAI approved the recommendation of its appointments committee to make Courell their permanent CEO.
During Courell’s time in the job, the FAI appointed Heimir Hallgrímsson as manager of the national men’s soccer team following a long-running search for Stephen Kenny’s successor.
Courell joined the FAI in February 2022 as its Chief Operating Officer having worked with Deloitte and as part of the planning team for the 2012 London Olympics.
He spent three years as director of operations for the British Paralympic Council before joining the English FA in 2017 before joining the FAI in 2022.
