A young woman with powerful Louisburgh connections made a big impact for the Irish U-16 soccer team recently. Chloe Sarcia-Maxwell from North Carolina made two appearances for the Irish team against Cymru (Wales) and caught the eye, scoring on her debut in a 4-3 victory.

Chloe, who plays for North Carolina Courage Academy, is the daughter of Tina Sarcia-Maxwell and Tony Maxwell from Kilgeever outside Louisburgh, where she has a large and very proud family.

The midfielder has been playing the game since she was five years old in the Boston and North Carolina area and has made great strides. She was invited to Dublin recently as Ireland Women's Head Coach Tom Elmes ran the rule over a number of players during the U-16 squad's two matches against Cymru.

Ireland's 2023-24 squad finished as runners-up in the UEFA Development Tournament and many of those players have graduated to the U-17 squad. Elmes will be hoping for similar success stories with this new group of players.

Sarcia-Maxwell came on as a sub midway through the opening game against Cymru and scored as the girls in green won a thriller. That impressive impact ensured she started the second game and afterwards, she was very proud to have worn the green of Ireland.
