WESTPORT United outclassed a diligent Swinford team to take a major step toward retaining the Quigley Cup.

Mike McGeough's charges were outstanding from start to finish against a Swinford side that kept trying but only got one second-half consolation from Zack Ruane.

In a game where it was almost impossible to pick a man of the match, Westport hit the ground running from the eighth minute when Rian Durkan opened the scoring.

Jack O'Malley, despite being taken off early in the second half, scored a hat-trick as United put six past the East Mayo side before the break.

Fionn McLoughlin and Jack Walsh found the net as the West Mayo men had it all but wrapped up by half-time.

Swinford were slightly the better team in the second half, but only got one goal back as Darragh Reynolds, Rian Durkan and Mikolaj Grabowski netted to send United into the Quigley Cup final.

A full report plus reaction will be carried in Tuesday's Mayo News.
