In Claremorris.

It was a credit to both sides that they played such good football in the terrible weather conditions. In the end Westport had too much for the home side, but coach Simon Collins, had made huge strides with Claremorris.

Two apiece from Dan O’Malley and Kevin Kitterick, ended Westport’s losing streak. Finian Brady’s consolation goal does nothing for a Claremorris side desperately needing points to stay in the division.

O’Malley got his first on thirteen minutes after a good opening by Westport and he added a second on twenty-two minutes. In between, Mark Maloney and Finian Brady had chances for Claremorris but couldn’t make them count. O’Malley, Kevin Kitterick, Harrison Quinn and Mark McDonagh all came close for Westport.

Claremorris started best in the second half and were back in the game briefly, when Brady sent a speculative ball curling to the top corner of the net, shortly after the restart.

Kitterick restored Westport’s two-goal margin, with an outstanding goal on fifty-six minutes when he expertly controlled a long clearance on the wing, turned the defender and slotted past Keith Saunders. Man of the match, Dylan O’Malley made the fourth goal three minutes later, with an exquisite piece of magic to beat two defenders and sent Kitterick through with a long pass of outstanding quality.

Mark Maloney, Brady and Cathal Maloney all had half-chances for Claremorris but none went in.
