The scoreline says it all. This was as one-sided a game as you could ever see. Three goals in five first-half minutes decided it – unfortunately for all present, especially those bedecked in blue, referee Eric Eaton, couldn’t blow it up then.
Celtic were superior all over the park and Manulla had nothing to offer. Goals from Luke Kelly, (who got three before the day was over,) Jason Hunt and Eoin Hughes, gave them a comfortable lead after twelve minutes. Hughes added a second before half-time, as did Kelly, and the excellent, Hunt. For spells, if you blinked you could miss a goal.
Manulla, who went with five in midfield, and one up front, in the vain hope of restricting Celtic, went in, six down at the break. Celtic added three more in the second period. Kelly completed his hat-trick and substitutes, Neil Douglas and Daniel Ajenipa completed the humiliation.
The size of the pitch and Celtic’s superb passing, reduced the Manulla players to spectators. Celtic’s first touch, their composure on the ball and their ability to always find a teammate to give the ball to, combined with lethal finishing, has set them a class apart from any other team in Mayo. They have three more points on the league table, while Manulla remain glancing over their shoulder at the relegation places.
