At Mount Falcon
This North Mayo derby was played at a frantic pace in Mount Falcon in the heat of Sunday afternoon. It was like a cup final or The Grand National.
In the end, Ballina Town deservedly went home with the points. They played the better football and took three chances on a day that favoured defenders.
Oisín Tighe finished a move that started with an outstanding long pass from Chris Maughan, to put Ballina in front, on twelve minutes.
Conor Gorman showed enormous skill to score the second on the half hour, turning his marker and shooting past Rangers’ goalkeeper, Brian McMahon.
Rangers were better in the second half, after making a few substitutions. One of them, Cian McHale, scored three minutes after he was introduced at the break, but a minute later, man-of-the match, Danny Gorman, restored Ballina’s two goal advantage. Another substitute, Conor Flynn, snatched one back for Rangers three minutes into stoppage time.
