Mayo rugby club lose Connacht Junior Cup semi-final

Ballinrobe frustrate Creggs for large periods of the game but eventually lose 17-25

Mayo rugby club lose Connacht Junior Cup semi-final

CONNACHT JUNIOR CUP SEMI-FINAL

BALLINROBE 17

CREGGS 25

BALLINROBE

The dream of reaching the Connacht Junior Cup final for Ballinrobe was smashed by Creggs in an exhilarating game of rugby in perfect conditions this afternoon. It was dry and even a little sunny in the South Mayo capital, with a big crowd lining the pitch. The atmosphere was fitting for a semi-final and the protagonists on the pitch did not disappoint.

It was thanks to a staunch defensive effort that Ballinrobe pushed Creggs to the limit over the full 80 minutes. Time and time again Creggs arrived metres or even only centimetres from the Ballinrobe goal line, only to see their efforts thwarted by stubborn defensive plays. Three times Creggs found themselves held up in Ballinrobe's try zone.

Yet, eventually their constant banging on the door paid off with two tries from prop Tom Farrell and one each from Shane Dowd and Mark Dowd.

The Ballinrobe tries were scored by Dylan Keane and James McTigue.

A full match report will be carried in Tuesday's Mayo News.
