RIP: Tributes lead as Mayo native passes away in 101st year

Imelda McBride (née Fitzmaurice) Park View Drive, Tuam, formerly of Greenwood, Ballyhaunis, Mayo, RIP

IMELDA McBride, Park View Drive, Tuam, who died recently in her 101st year at her home, was
formerly Fitzmaurice from Greenwood, Ballyhaunis, Mayo.

Among the special tributes paid to Imelda was one from the Sheanon family in Dun Laoghaire, Dublin.

“Our family grew up listening to stories about Imelda Fitzmaurice, of happy and sad times and the
incredible bond that neighbours shared in the early decades of Ireland’s independence.

“She was two years older than our mam, Kit Comer, and the same age as our aunt Mary. They were next door neighbours in Greenwood, Ballyhaunis, and our mam spoke of Imelda with the reverence of a saint.”

Reposing was at Grogan’s Funeral Home, Tuam, with later removal to Tuam Cathedral. Interment took
place in Tuam Cemetery following Requiem Mass the next day.

Imelda, who was predeceased by her husband Pat, son Paul, daughter Catherine and infant son Patrick, will be sadly missed by her daughters Mary and Eileen, sons John, Dermot and Kevin, her two adored granddaughters Aisling and Aoife of whom she was immensely proud, son-in-law John, daughter-in-law Helen, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.
