RIP: Tributes paid as man with proud Mayo roots passes in Cavan

The Bailieborough man had powerful ties to Kilmovee and spent many happy years visiting family in the region

RIP: Tributes paid as man with proud Mayo roots passes in Cavan

The death took place recently in Cavan General Hospital of PJ Barry, Curkish, Bailieborough. He was husband of Fiona Shiel, Kilmovee, and son-in-law of Chrissie and John Shiel.

Fiona and PJ and family were regular visitors to Mayo and the Kilmovee area over the years and enjoyed lovely times visiting family and friends.

PJ was active in community ventures in his home area and among those leading the tributes to him was Bailieborough St Patrick’s Day Parade Committee.

“PJ was a former Chairman of the Bailieborough Parade committee and he gave up his time selflessly over the years. He volunteered and held various roles in the Parade committee, Bailieborough Christmas Lights committee, and Bailieborough Festival committee to name but a few.

"He was a proud Bailieborough man.”

The funeral Mass was celebrated in St Anne's Church, Bailieborough, with interment afterwards in St Anne's Cemetery.

Condolences are tendered to his wife Fiona and their family, Rebecca (Trevor), Ruby (Dylan), Adrian and Callum (Holly), granddaughter Heidi, his brothers Anthony (Kathryn) and Vincent (Louise), sisters Carol (Paul), Maria (Mattie) and Fiona (Alan), mother-in-law and father-in-law Chrissie and John Shiel, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, his aunt Lilly, uncle Gerry, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends at this sad time.
