SOLD: Ancestral home of Oasis brothers taken off the market

The property in Sonnagh, Charlestown, Mayo, was put up for sale earlier this year, having been owned by Margaret Sweeney, grandmother of Oasis pair Liam and Noel Gallagher

Those keeping an eye on the sale of a small Mayo cottage on the outskirts of Charlestown, once owned by the maternal grandmother of Oasis stars Liam and Noel Gallagher, will have come across a big development in recent days, as the property has been listed as sold.

The two-bedroom property in Sonnagh, on the fringes of the East Mayo town, was frequented on many a Summer by the music icons.

The brothers, whose anthems defined a generation, are said to have drawn inspiration from the traditional music sessions of the Charlestown area. Locals recall the Gallaghers enjoying the freedom of the Mayo countryside, soaking up the musical heritage that shaped their distinctive sound.

Recently renovated and impeccably maintained, the cottage extends to 900 sq ft and sits on six acres of land on the banks of the Sonnagh River. Features include an open-plan kitchen and living area with a stone fireplace, two double bedrooms, and extensive grounds containing the ruins of a former corn mill.

Oasis have taken the world by storm in 2025 on their comeback tour; however, this piece of rock history in rural Mayo drew plenty of interest.

The lucky new owner can walk through the four walls of the home knowing that, for fans, this home is part of the folklore of some of music's most famous faces.
