This time of the year often sees plenty of top class horses in action as the popular festive season heats up in the sport of horse racing. Today, December 26, sees one of the best days in the sport as there are eleven race meetings across the UK and Ireland. At Leopardstown, there will be lots of attention on the feature race of the day which takes place at 2.20pm.
In the Racing Post Novice Chase, which is a Grade One, there are connections to Mayo as the locally owned Westport Cove is set to run. The horse owned by Westport native Cathal Hughes is set to run in the usual green and red colours while the Willie Mullins trained horse is set to go up against some extremely talented horses.
The Gordon Elliot trained Romeo Coolio is the pre-race favourite while the Willie Mullins trained Salvador Mundi and the Henry De Bromhead trained July Flower will also fancy their chances.
Westport Cove who has won three of his last four races, often likes to make the running and at odds of 16/1, he could go well with a prize pot of €60,000 awarded to the winner.
You can watch Westport Cove's race live on RTÉ Two.
