Ballina Cricket Club at their new grounds in Belleek
History was made in Mayo cricket circles on Saturday as Ballina Cricket Club played their first competitive fixture at their new ground in Belleek.
The club is still in its infancy, having only played their first competitive season last year. Now, the cricketers of North Mayo have a ground to call their home, having played their games in Galway last season.

The Division One Connacht Cricket League game between Ballina and Galway was a momentous one for the club, filling the hundred-year void left following the disbandment of the previous incarnation of Ballina Cricket Club, which won the Connacht Challenge Cup in 1894 and 1896.
Damien Schwarz was a standout performer for the hosts, ending the match narrowly short of a half-century. In the end, Galway won by a solid six wickets.
The grounds in Belleek are only the third in the province, and the only grounds outside Galway.
