Eamonn Keane, the strength athlete known as The Ironman, created a unique piece of history in USA recently when he set another World Record, 30 years after his first in 1994.

His 30-year career at the top of his sport is a huge testament to his endurance, dedication and desire to push the boundaries.

The Louisburgh man’s first World Record was in Florida in 1994 and he went back there a few weeks ago to attempt another World Record to celebrate the 30th anniversary.

During Eamonn’s three decades at the top, he has travelled around the world, breaking world records on every continent and possessing the most Strength World Records ever held by an individual.

Among Keane’s achievements are: The most Strength World Records ever broken in a day (7); becoming a 7th Degree/Dan Martial Arts Black Belt and Irish and European Heavyweight Full Contact Kickboxing Champion; becoming a qualified Personal Trainer, Martial Arts Instructor, Kickboxing Instructor and Professional Bodyguard.

He has also surpassed the world records for the Heavyweight Division in Natural Powerlifting with a 240kg/525 pounds, Bench Press, 365kg/803 pound Squat and 375kg/825 pounds deadlift.

The Louisburgh man is delighted to have set new benchmarks in the past few weeks. “It’s been a fabulous 30 years with fantastic memories of great people and great places. Once I got to Florida I decided to crank up training ,increase the weights and hope it worked.

“In 1994, a few days after my first World Record, I was on South Beach Miami with some friends from the gym. There was a group playing live music on the beach and my friends asked the group to play a song to celebrate the world record.

They played Neil Young’s ‘Long May You Run.’ Never in my wildest dreams did I think that 30 years later, I’d be back on the same beach and the ‘run’ would still be continuing.”
