Irish travellers have been urged to avoid travelling to the UAE amid ongoing tensions in the region that could bring potentially life-threatening risks.
The Department of Foreign Affairs has updated its travel advice for Irish citizens living in, visiting, or planning to travel to parts of the Gulf region following a series of strikes and military activity across the Middle East.

The advice comes amid an ongoing conflict triggered by joint military strikes on Iran by the United States and Israel, which has since sparked multiple counter-attacks that have reached the United Arab Emirates, including popular destination Dubai.
Irish holidaymakers planning to go to the UAE have been urged to avoid any non-essential travel to the region and Irish citizens living in the UAE have been urged to adopt a "shelter in place" strategy.
Advice from the Department says,
"In light of the current security situation in the Middle East and Gulf region, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade strongly advises Irish citizens against all but essential travel to the United Arab Emirates until further notice.
"Irish citizens in the United Arab Emirates should shelter in place, avoid unnecessary movement, and follow the advice of the local authorities. Irish citizens are also advised to avoid military and security force installations.
"There is significant disruption to travel across the Middle East and Gulf regions. Citizens traveling through or to these regions should contact their airline directly.
"Irish citizens in need of consular assistance should contact the Embassy of Ireland in the United Arab Emirates on +971 024 958 200.

"Alternatively, you may contact the Duty Officer at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Dublin on +353 1 408 2000.
"Irish citizens in the UAE should register with the Department via the Citizens Registration facility if they have not already done so."
Officials estimate tens of thousands of Irish citizens may be living or travelling in the region, with a particularly large community based in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
The Department also urged Irish citizens to track official updates closely, remain in secure accommodation when possible, and avoid large gatherings or public areas where risk remains elevated.
