Man to appear before Courts after attempting to 'run down' gardaí in Cavan

One garda was brought to Cavan General Hospital by ambulance

While conducting a routine checkpoint at Crosskeyes, Ballyjamesduff in Co Cavan, gardaí got more than they bargained for after a vehicle approached at speed and then crossed over onto the wrong side of the road.
Taking to social media, a spokesperson for the Cavan and Monaghan unit of An Garda Síochána said the vehicle crossed over "to try and run down a garda member" on Saturday evening, April 12.

Thankfully, the garda was not struck or injured during this incident. The vehicle then drove in the direction of Cavan Town and failed to stop for Gardaí. The car was intercepted on the Ballinagh Road.
"The driver of the vehicle resisted arrest and assaulted two garda members before he could be detained. One garda was brought to Cavan General Hospital by ambulance and has been released this morning with non serious injuries thankfully," the spokesperson continued.
It was later confirmed that the driver of the vehicle had no insurance, tax or NCT, he also failed to provide a road side breath test.
"The vehicle was seized and the driver is now before the Courts charged with the said offences," the An Garda Síochána spokesperson concluded.
