Kildare County Council is considering a planning application by mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor for a six-bedroom house with a cinema and swimming pool near Straffan.

McGregor wants to demolish an existing detached five-bedroom dwelling to make way for the new structure.

The development is planned for The Paddocks and 5 Castledillon Lower.

The new building he’s seeking would have two storeys and a basement and he’s also seeking to construct balconies, covered terraces, roof lights, a games area, a bar, car parking, and a ramped driveway.

Kildare County Council has sought further information about the proposal.

KCC has said the design and scale of the planned new dwelling “by virtue of its length, massing and scale” is inconsistent with designs for new houses in rural areas.

It has also indicated that the location chosen for the wastewater treatment system appears to be unsuitable. The council has also said it doesn’t encourage new access points on to public roads.

KCC has pointed out that the response to the request for additional information must be received by mid-January.
