The attempted assassination of former US President Donald Trump on Saturday was "truly shocking" and must be condemned, Taoiseach Simon Harris has said.
Trump was shot in the right ear as he addressed supporters at an outdoor campaign rally in Pennsylvania yesterday evening.
The US Secret Service confirmed a bystander had been killed and two others are in hospital in a critical condition. The attacker, who has been named by the FBI as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was also shot dead.

Taoiseach Simon Harris told the BBC that the attack was a "horrific and heinous criminal act". He also welcomed news that Trump had spoken with President Joe Biden in the aftermath of the incident.
"It's so important that political violence is condemned and, and of course I want to send former President Trump our very best wishes and his family and all of those caught up in this horrific heinous political act last night," he added.
"Political violence must always be condemned and always be called out, and I must say it is quite alarming the rise that we're seeing in political violence across the world. It's only weeks since my Slovakian counterpart [Robert Fico] had an attempt on his life as well," he said.
