The late Ms Geraldine Buggy was hospitalised after getting into difficulty at Lough Ennell

Tributes have been paid following the death of Geraldine Buggy of Horseleap, close to the Offaly/Westmeath border, who died recently after she experienced difficulties while swimming at Lough Ennell.

The late Ms Buggy is understood to have been hospitalised after the incident at Lough Ennell on June 25th.

It was reported that instructors from the nearby Lilliput Adventure Centre entered the water and managed to reach her.

CPR was performed before an ambulance arrived on the scene within minutes. Ms Buggy was taken to the Midland Regional Hospital Mullingar, where she passed away.

"Deepest sympathies to all Geraldine’s family and friends from all the crew in Lilliput AC," a message posted on RIP.IE said.

Many former colleagues from the HSE paid tribute, as did those who knew her through her involvement in local drama.

"Such shocking news, to imagine a world where Ger is absent is absolutely impossible, there are no words to express the shock and sorrow. May she RIP," wrote Susan Gorman.

"Geraldine's tragic passing shocked us in Rahan Drama Group. She acted in some of our plays and also became our director. Sympathy to Milo, Pat and Betty, all loyal friends in our group," posted Rahan Drama Group.

Many of the late Geraldine's former colleagues noted her to be a "lovely manager at work" with a "kind nature".

A private service celebrating Geraldine’s life was held on Saturday morning, June 29th, followed by cremation in Mount Jerome Crematorium.

She is sadly missed by her loving husband Milo, stepchildren John and Tara, mother Margaret, sister Mary, grandchildren

Evelyn and Thomas, daughter-in-law Mary, son-in-law Chris, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, relatives, neighbours and friends.
