Uninsured driver caught speeding on busy motorway - 30 minutes after buying van

The driver of the van was detected travelling at 149kph on the M1

An uninsured van driver who was caught speeding half an hour after they bought the vehicle is facing prosecution before the courts, gardai have revealed.

The incident, on the M1 in County Louth, is one of two incidents which have been highlighted by members of the Dundalk Roads Policing Unit in the Wee County.

"The driver of the van was detected travelling at 149kph on the M1 after buying the van 30 mins before," read a post on social media which added that the driver "hadn't bothered making a call for insurance".
In a separate detection, a recently-purchased BMW was seized after gardai established the driver did not have insurance.

"The driver of the BMW was stopped in Ardee and stated he was going to buy insurance the next day. They had the vehicle for a month," said a garda spokesperson.

Both motorists will face prosecution before the courts and face a potential driving ban if convicted.

"I know most people when buying a new vehicle would make sure they took out insurance as soon as the get their hands on their pride and joy. Well not these motorists," commented gardai.
