The late Ann Delaney
The family of Laois woman Ann Delaney, who died on the streets of Dublin in February, are holding a charity walk to raise funds for a homeless charity.
Family and friends of Ann, a mother-of-one from Crettyard, will walk the Carlow leg of the Columbanus Way - an approximately 40km route from the top of Mt. Leinster to Carlow Town, taking in Myshall, Bagenalstown, Leighlinbridge and Milford later this month.
At her funeral Ann, who was a former nurse, was remembered as being "the heart and queen" of the Dublin homeless community.
The family have set up a Go Fund Me Page to raise money for the Alice Leahy Trust, a befriending, social and health service for people who are homeless.
Ann's brother John Delaney said: "The Alice Leahy Trust was founded in 1975 and provides help and assistance to those without permanent shelter in Dublin City centre, including clothes, footwear, toiletries, shower facilities etc. and has up to 80 different visitors weekly of all ages and from all denominations and backgrounds. The Alice Leahy Trust is funded entirely by public donations and as a family we would love to raise money to help them with their day to day costs as they have been very close to our hearts in recent years."
John appealed for people to donate whatever they can to the charity.
"Nobody knows what is around the corner in life and who may need help from the Alice Leahy Trust in the future," he said.
The memorial walk will take place on Saturday, May 25 and will depart Mount Leinster at 7am.
