A NOVICE driver who tested positive for cannabis after they were stopped for speeding on one of the busiest motorways in the country is facing a potential disqualification.
The detection was made during National Slow Down Day by members of the Tipperary Roads Policing Unit who were patrolling the M8 motorway, which links Dublin and Cork.
According to gardai, the vehicle was travelling at 162km/h before it was stopped.
"The driver, a Novice, having been stopped for Dangerous Driving then failed a DrugWipe test for Cannabis. The motorist was arrested and had been charged to Court," read a post on social media highlighting the incident.
The Tipperary Roads Policing Unit were conducting out speed checks on the M8 when they stopped this car speeding at 162kph.

The driver then proceeded to test positive for cannabis and was arrested.

Hundreds of motorists were caught speeding, across the country, during the 24-hour Operation Slow Down which ended at 7am.
