Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
AN ELDERLY woman has been killed and a man seriously injured in a road collision in County Mayo.
Gardaí are currently at the scene of the fatal road traffic collision that occurred in Swinford at around 4.30pm this Monday afternoon.
"The two-vehicle collision occurred on the N5. A female passenger, aged in her 70s, in one car was fatally injured during the collision. The male driver of the same car was seriously injured and taken to Mayo University Hospital," said a garda spokesperson.
"The male driver of the second vehicle was also seriously injured during the collision and was taken to University Hospital Galway," they added.
The N5 is currently closed between Swinford and Charlestown as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators conduct a technical examination of the scene. Local diversions are in place.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and who were travelling on the N5 between Swinford and Charlestown this Monday afternoon, between 4pm and 4.45pm, are asked to make this footage available to gardaí.
