The scene in Newbridge at noon
A fire has broken out in Newbridge, adjacent to the popular McDonald’s restaurant in the Moorefield area of the town.
It happened shortly before noon.
There is speculation that a car may have gone on fire close to the building, which is opposite a number of shopping locations including Tesco and Dunne Stores.
Firefighters and emergency vehicles, including a water tanker, are at the scene and gardaí are managing traffic movement on what is the town’s busiest artery.
An eye witness said that some flames were visible from the main road outside and the incident generated a significant amount of smoke on the road, which is the main route through the town.
It is thought that the car may have been moving through the drive thru section at the rear of the premises when the fire took hold.
It was not immediately known if anyone was injured.
