Westport’s Freya Renton breaks yet another record

FREYA Renton of Westport Athletics Club has broken yet another record to claim gold in the 800-metre U-15 category at the 123.ie National Juvenile Track and Field Championships in Tullamore over the weekend. 

One of the rising stars of Irish middle-distance running broke the championship record in a time of 2:10.89, beating her nearest competitor by over two seconds. Her twin sister, Holly, placed seventh in the final with an impressive time of 2:20.63. 

In addition, Westport AC also had superb performances in finals from Mella Ní Mhearain (1:50.55) in the U-13 Girls 600m, Briain Daly (2:16.73) in the U-14 Boys 800m, May Duckett in the U-14 Girls 800m and Holly Renton in the U-15 Girls 800m final  

Four of these athletes will also be in action in three weeks’ time again for the 1500M national final.
