Carnacon appoint Mayo coach as team manager

Former All-Ireland champions make exciting management statement

Carnacon appoint former Mayo coach as team manager

Inishturk native Danny O'Toole has been appointed team manager of Carnacon

CARNACON have signaled their intent for the new season by appointing Danny O'Toole as their new team manager. The former All-Ireland champions ratified O'Toole's selection on Saturday night and the Inishturk native will take up the role immediately.

The Mayo News understands that the new manager will finalise his backroom team in the short term as the club with six All-Ireland titles and 15 Connacht crowns looks to work their way back towards the top of the pile in Mayo. The women in green and red were defeated in last season's county semi-final and in recent years both Knockmore and Burrishoole have won county titles after a period when Carnacon dominated the local scene.

O'Toole brings an impressive CV to the role. He played with both Westport and Inishturk on the football field while also enjoying a long career with Westport Bulls RFC where he also played representative rugby for Connacht. He was joint manager of the Westport Bulls who won the Connacht Junior Cup in 2015 for the first time 40 years.

On the GAA front O'Toole played on the All-Ireland winning Mayo Masters teams of 2016 and '17 as well as representing Ireland in the Masters Compromise Rules series in 2016.

He was a coach and head of performance analysis with the Westport senior team from 2017 to '21 and a Mayo Academy coach in 2020/21. He then became coach and head of performance analysis with the highly-successful Mayo minor squads from 2021 to 2023 as the green and red won two Connacht titles and reached the 2022 All-Ireland final under the management of Sean Deane.
