BALLINROBE Community School saw their interest in the Connacht Post Primary Schools Championship ended by a Summerhill College team that never looked like losing in the Connacht Centre of Excellence this afternoon.
A previous loss to Rice College and a win over St Jarlath’s College means Damien Egan’s charges will not qualify for the next round of the competition.
Former Mayo Minor Tom Lydon ploughed a lone furrow up front, kicking all but one of Ballinrobe’s scores, including their one and only score of the second half (a free).
Led by the excellent Aaron Lang and Conor Flynn up front, Summerhill had four on the board before Tiernan Egan hit their first in the 11th minute.
The Sligo school finished the first half with a 0-9 0-5 lead that stretched by 1-2 eleven minutes into the second half after Aaron Lang got the game’s only goal.
With four Sligo Under-20s in their ranks and several county Minors, Summerhill kept Ballinrobe at arm’s length in a half where the Mayo school failed to score from play.
There will be a full report plus reaction from both camps in Tuesday’s print edition of The Mayo News.
