Martha Avorgbedor wins national award as local office celebrates second consecutive success
A Mayo-Roscommon home carer has been named Right at Home’s 2026 Carer of the Year at a national awards ceremony in Galway.
Martha Avorgbedor received the award at a ceremony in the Salthill Hotel on October 16, having previously been named regional winner. It is the second consecutive year that the Mayo-Roscommon office has claimed the national title in the category.
The annual awards recognise care professionals who help older people and adults with disabilities live safely and independently in their own homes.
Martha was selected from seven regional finalists, with judges recognising her warmth, patience, professionalism and commitment to treating each client as an individual.
She was also praised for building trusting relationships and helping those she supports feel comfortable, respected and valued in their own homes.
Speaking after receiving the award, Martha said she was honoured by the recognition and grateful to the clients who place their trust in her.
“Caring for people is such a personal and rewarding role, and being able to support someone to feel comfortable, respected and independent in their own home means so much to me,” she said.
She also thanked the Mayo-Roscommon team for its support.
Natalie Crowe, managing director of Right at Home Mayo-Roscommon, said the award was a proud moment for the local team. She praised Martha’s kindness and ability to put clients at ease, build trust and make people feel valued.
“We see her dedication every day, so to have that recognised on a national stage is an incredibly proud moment for all of us in Mayo-Roscommon,” she said.
David McKone, managing director of Right at Home Ireland, congratulated Martha, the regional finalists and all the award recipients, saying the ceremony recognised the contribution of care professionals in homes and communities across the country.
The awards come as the home care provider plans to create 500 new jobs across its Irish network by the end of 2026, in response to growing demand for home care services.
