Gardaí urge supporters to arrive early as thousands are expected at MacHale Park to welcome the All-Ireland champions

Gardaí are warning of severe traffic disruption in Castlebar this afternoon (Monday, July 27) as thousands of supporters gather to welcome home the Mayo Senior Football team following their All-Ireland triumph.

Large crowds are expected for the homecoming celebration at MacHale Park, with gates opening at 3pm, entertainment beginning at 3.30pm, and the team due to arrive at approximately 6pm.

To facilitate the event, MacHale Road will be closed to traffic, with additional road closures possible to ensure public safety. Motorists are urged to follow road signage and directions from Gardaí and event stewards.

Supporters travelling to Castlebar are encouraged to use the Castlebar Bypass and access the town via the N5 Dublin Road, N60 Claremorris Road, N84 Ballinrobe Road, N5 Westport Road or R311 Newport Road.

Parking restrictions will also be in place from midday around MacHale Park, and on surrounding roads. Designated disabled parking will be available inside the stadium, and bus parking and drop-off will operate from Mitchell Barracks.

Additional paid and free parking is available at Lannagh Road, Knockcroghery, Breaffy Road and Moneen.

Gardaí are also reminding the public that the homecoming celebration is a strictly alcohol-free event. Supporters are encouraged to cooperate with traffic management measures to ensure a safe and enjoyable occasion for all.
