Water supply disruptions are affecting parts of Achill Island following essential repair works, according to Uisce Éireann

Residents in Achill Island, Co. Mayo are experiencing water supply disruptions following essential repair works on the local network, according to Uisce Éireann.

It was confirmed that customers in areas including Na Sraithíní, Dereens, Cloughmore, An Corrán, Poll Raithní and surroundings may face interruptions as reservoirs continue to recharge after repairs to two significant leaks.

It is expected that normal supply will return to most affected areas by approximately 7pm this evening.

However, further disruption is likely in parts of Achill on Saturday, particularly in Dooega and Ashleam, where customers may experience intermittent outages and reduced water pressure.

Colette Scahill, Water Operations Manager with Uisce Éireann, said the repair works were necessary but have impacted supply levels.

“Our crews successfully carried out essential repairs to two major leaks on the local network yesterday and today, but this has caused levels in the local reservoirs to drop,” she said. “While the reservoirs recharge, some customers will experience disruptions to their supply.”

She added that homes located on higher ground or at the end of the network are most likely to be affected.

Uisce Éireann has apologised for the inconvenience and thanked customers for their patience while the system recovers.
