The new Columbarium in Crossmolina is nearing completion, marking an important milestone for the local community

A significant community project in Crossmolina is nearing completion, with the first new Mayo Columbarium set to provide an important facility for local families.

Councillor Michael Loftus has welcomed the progress, describing the development as both personally meaningful and of great importance to the wider community.

“This is a project that means a great deal to me personally, and to many families in our community,” he said. “This Columbarium stands as a testament to the care, respect, and community spirit.”

The Columbarium, which will offer a dedicated space for the respectful placement of cremated remains, has been delivered through the combined efforts of Mayo County Council staff, contractors and the local graveyard committee.

Cllr Loftus paid particular tribute to the Crossmolina Graveyard Committee, acknowledging their long-standing commitment to maintaining the area.

“For years, they have cared for the resting place of our loved ones with genuine compassion and pride,” he said. “Their tireless efforts, often carried out quietly and without fanfare, have not only maintained the graveyard to an award‑winning standard but have also offered comfort and dignity to families.”

He added that the near completion of the Columbarium stands as a testament to the dedication and community spirit shown by all involved.
