Ministers Dara Calleary and Alan Dillon are encouraging community groups in County Mayo to apply for the €25 million Community Centre Investment Fund.

Community groups across Mayo are being encouraged to apply for a share of a €25 million national fund aimed at upgrading and refurbishing local facilities.

The latest round of the Community Centre Investment Fund (CCIF) was launched by Dara Calleary, Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, who described it as a major opportunity for communities to enhance vital local amenities.

Announcing the 2026 fund, Minister Calleary said more than €111 million has been invested in community centres to date, supporting their role as vital hubs for local life.

“This scheme can be used for a wide range of refurbishment works, from energy upgrades and accessibility improvements to essential repairs and new facilities,” he said.

Under the 2026 programme, grants ranging from €10,000 to €100,000 will be available, with smaller projects receiving up to 95% funding and larger works up to 90%.

Applications for the fund will open on May 29 and close on July 13, with community groups advised to begin preparing their submissions in advance.

Welcoming the announcement, Alan Dillon, Minister of State and TD for Mayo, said the fund represents a significant opportunity for local communities.

“Community centres are the beating heart of local life,” he said. “This funding has already transformed facilities across the country, and I want to see Mayo groups fully benefit from this next round.”

Eligible works under the scheme include structural repairs, new roofs, kitchen upgrades, improved accessibility, and enhanced stage, lighting and sound facilities.

The Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht will also host a series of information sessions in the coming weeks to support applicants in preparing strong proposals.

Minister Dillon urged local committees and volunteers to engage with the process. “Start gathering quotes, attend the information sessions and familiarise yourselves with the guidelines. This funding can make a real and lasting difference to local facilities,” he said.

Mayo Fine Gael TD, Deputy Keira Keogh, also outlined what capital works can be included in the application for funding: “Everything from the costs associated with building/renovation works to the professional fees such as architects, surveyors and any fire safety equipment. Also, the direct costs associated with improving accessibility for disabled users or those with mobility issues. Included in the funding is toilets and showers within the community centre, purchase costs of equipment like kitchen appliances and catering equipment, tables and chairs.”

With applications set to open on May 29, Mayo groups are now being encouraged to begin preparations to ensure they can take full advantage of the funding opportunity.

The scheme is expected to attract strong interest from groups across Mayo, where community centres play a key role in social, cultural and recreational activities.
