Wife of Man United legend set to delve into Mayo roots on Late Late Show

The wife of Manchester United and England football legend Wayne Rooney is set to delve into her Mayo roots in an appearance on The Late Late Show this evening.

Coleen Rooney is one of the most recognisable faces in England, having made the headlines during the 'Wagatha Christie' court case in the early 2020s, as well as as a TV presenter and magazine writer.

Her husband, Wayne, is an iconic footballer, having lit up the Premier League for the Red Devils, becoming their all-time top goalscorer as well as rising high in the goal-scoring charts for England.

The Everton academy graduate has plenty of links to the country himself, with his paternal grandparents hailing from Down. However, his wife's deep connections to this neck of the woods are set to take centre stage.

Coleen's great grandparents hail from Derrycoosh, near Aughagower and Islandeady, with many of her cousins still residing in the area.

When she was eleven years old, her father took her on a trip to retrace their family tree. Coleen also described her experience of climbing one of Mayo's most famous landmarks.

“We went where the family had a farm, and did Croagh Patrick," she reminisced. "My dad actually did it barefoot. It was tougher than I thought it was going to be, especially as you get up the top."

Another trip for a family event brought Coleen to Ashford Castle in more recent times.

Coleen Rooney will appear on tonight's Late Late Show with Patrick Kielty, as well as Ireland football star Jason McAteer and The Coronas frontman Danny O'Reilly.
