Traffic controls are in place on the R319 between Achill Sound and Cashel as Mayo County Council carries out drainage works

Motorists in Co. Mayo are being advised to expect delays as drainage works get underway on a busy coastal route.

Mayo County Council has confirmed that works on the R319 road between Achill Sound and Cashel will run from Wednesday, March 18 to Friday, March 27.

Traffic management measures, including controls along the route, will be in place for the duration of the works, and road users are being asked to allow extra time for their journeys.

The council said the works are necessary to improve drainage along the road but acknowledged that disruption is likely.

In a statement, Mayo County Council apologised for any inconvenience caused and urged drivers to proceed with caution in the affected area.

The R319 is a key route serving local communities and visitors to the Achill area, and motorists are advised to follow all signage and directions while the works are ongoing.
