Expanded fuel allowance for 1,400 Mayo households, announces Minister Calleary

Minister Dara Calleary announces 50,000 more households now eligible for support under the Fuel Allowance scheme.

Fuel Allowance expanded

Minister Dara Calleary announced that 1,401 new households in Mayo will benefit from the expanded Fuel Allowance scheme, providing €38 per week to support working families

Mayo residents are set to benefit from the expansion of the Fuel Allowance scheme, with 1,401 new households in the county now eligible for assistance.

Minister for Social Protection Dara Calleary confirmed that 50,000 additional households nationally, who receive the Working Family Payment, will now qualify for the payment.

The allowance provides €38 per week for six months of the year, from September to April, helping families manage rising energy costs.

“The first payment for new recipients will be made on March 12, and it will be backdated to January,” Minister Calleary said.

This expansion brings the total number of households supported to 470,000 nationwide and is a welcome boost for families in Mayo and across Ireland.

The announcement comes as households continue to feel the pressure of energy bills, with the Fuel Allowance providing crucial support over the colder months. Local recipients are encouraged to check their eligibility and ensure they are registered to receive the payment.
