Dara Calleary has a very busy day on Friday in his home constituency of Mayo.

Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary, TD, will today officiate over the sod turning and opening of 142 new social homes in Mayo, representing a total investment of over €47 million.
The Minister will start his day in Ballina to turn the sod on 83 new homes with a total capital investment of nearly €29 million. This will be followed by an official opening of three new homes at Church Manor in Ballina. In the afternoon the Minister will travel to Ballyhaunis to turn the sod on 28 new homes at Abbeyquarter followed by the official opening of six new homes in Claremorris.
In Cross West, the Minister will open eight new dwellings before travelling to Ballinrobe to turn the sod on four new developments representing 14 new social homes.
Speaking this morning in Ballina, Minster Calleary said: “This is red letter day for Mayo with a more than €47 million investment in housing. “And it doesn’t stop there. Only yesterday councillors in Mayo approved Part 8 planning for 77 new homes in Castlebar which is really welcome news.
“Mayo County Council are still seeking Expression of Interests for the delivery of new affordable purchase homes in Castlebar, Westport and Ballina. Under the call, developers with planning permission are invited to offer schemes of a minimum of 10 dwellings to the council under an advance purchase turnkey arrangement, with funding support available via the Affordable Housing Fund (AHF) and I would encourage engagement in this process.
“I want to thank Mayo County Council and my colleague, Minister for Housing, James Browne, for their unwavering determination to deliver on housing. Minister Browne is steadfast in his focus, not just in Mayo but across the country. Similarly, Mayo County Council have demonstrated their commitment to increase the supply of housing in the county, and I will continue to work with them to ensure that this progress not just continues but increases in the years ahead.”
