Prospective homebuyers in Mayo are set to benefit from increased property price limits and revised income thresholds.
Minister Alan Dillon has welcomed the changes to the Local Authority Home Loan and the Local Authority Purchase and Renovation Loan, confirming that the house-price limit for Mayo County Council will rise from €275,000 to €310,000.
The updated limit means more homes across Mayo will now fall within the eligibility criteria for the Government-supported schemes, which are designed to assist first-time buyers who cannot secure sufficient finance from commercial lenders.
“These changes will provide real support to people in Mayo who are looking to buy a home but are struggling to secure sufficient finance from commercial lenders,” Minister Dillon said. “By increasing the property price ceilings and adjusting income thresholds, more individuals and families will now qualify for a Local Authority Loan.”

The Local Authority Home Loan was launched in January 2022, with the Purchase and Renovation Loan introduced in July 2024. Both initiatives aim to support eligible applicants seeking to get on the property ladder.
“In Mayo, prospective buyers will now be able to purchase homes valued up to €310,000, which reflects the reality of the local housing market,” Minister Dillon added. “This is a meaningful change that will help more people take that first step onto the property ladder.”
The revised limits are due to take effect in the second quarter of 2026. Minister Dillon encouraged anyone considering buying a home in Mayo to review the updated criteria to see if they now qualify under either scheme.
