Mayo Day 2026 goes countywide once again with theme “Mayo – The Connected County”
Local communities across Mayo are being encouraged to get involved in Mayo Day 2026, with Mayo County Council inviting groups to host events in their own areas as the popular celebration returns on Saturday, May 2.
Following the success of last year’s countywide format, which saw more than 20 free and inclusive events held from Belmullet to Tourmakeady and Westport to Ballina, Mayo Day will once again be celebrated right across the county. Last year’s programme also included a sold-out Grand Finale concert at the TF Royal Theatre.
For 2026, Mayo Day returns with the theme “Mayo – The Connected County”, highlighting the strong links between communities at home and abroad, the creativity of Mayo people, and the county’s rich heritage.
To support local participation, Mayo County Council has announced a limited grant fund for groups and organisations wishing to organise their own Mayo Day events. Arts, community and sports groups, residents’ associations and educational bodies are all eligible to apply.

Mags Connell, Administrative Officer with the Communications Department at Mayo County Council, said Mayo Day has become a standout date in the county’s calendar.
“After ten years of hosting a flagship event in one location, we brought Mayo Day on the road last year and the response was hugely positive,” she said. “There was something for everyone, and the feedback from both organisers and the public was fantastic.”
She added that the council is keen to see strong local involvement again in 2026. “We have a limited grant fund available for organisations and groups who want to host their own Mayo Day celebration that connects with their local area and attracts people to come along.”
Groups interested in applying are being advised to act quickly, as the funding process is competitive and funding is limited.
Expressions of interest should be submitted to mayoday@mayococo.ie. Further information and application details are available at www.mayo.ie/mayoday.
