Keane's Meats in Newport scooped the best rib-eye steak in Connacht at the Irish National Steak Challenge 2026.

Well-known family-run traditional Mayo butchers Keane's Meats are helping themselves to a slice of success, having scooped major honours at the Irish National Steak Challenge.

The prestigious event, run by the Associated Craft Butchers of Ireland, ran the rule over cuts of steak from across the country.

At the event, which was held at the Curragh Racecourse in Kildare, Keane's, based in Newport, won the title of best rib-eye steak in Connacht.

The business, founded in 1984, took to social media to celebrate the news, with many congratulating the butcher in the comments.
