Small businesses in Mayo created 81 new jobs over the past 12 months with the support of Local Enterprise Office Mayo, according to figures released by the Minister of State for Employment, Small Business and Retail, Alan Dillon.
Minister Dillion said the jobs were generated by local entrepreneurs, family businesses and emerging enterprises companies operating across a range of sectors, including manufacturing, engineering, energy and environmental services, design and technology-led enterprises. Local Enterprise Office Mayo now supports 200 client companies, which collectively sustain 1,388 jobs across the county.
Speaking on the results, Minister Dillon said they: “reflect the dedication and resilience of the people behind these companies, who continue to start, grow and scale their businesses in Mayo.”

For the first time since the establishment of the LEO network in 2014, the number of jobs financially supported by Local Enterprise Offices has exceeded 40,000. In total, 7,148 small businesses are now supporting 40,285 jobs across the country. Of the new jobs created in 2025, 82% were located outside Dublin, highlighting continued growth in regional enterprise.
Minister Dillon made the announcement at LEO client company The Smooth Company in South Dublin. He said the results reflected ongoing job growth across the LEO network, which operates through 31 local authorities and is funded by Enterprise Ireland.
“These are real jobs in real communities, from Castlebar to Ballina, Westport to Belmullet, and they demonstrate the power of targeted local supports.
“They are small businesses that are starting to grow and scale upwards, creating opportunities for families and strengthening our local economy,” he added
The Mayo TD also highlighted the work of John Magee, Head of Enterprise, and Joanne Grehan, Director of Services, noting that their leadership in Local Enterprise Office Mayo “has ensured that Mayo remains one of the most dynamic and supportive environments in the country for small businesses.”
