NBI Chairman and RISE founder David McCourt has been visiting schools across the country to award cash grants to support the use of technology.
The RISE Community Fund has announced a new round of cash grants for national schools in Mayo, aimed at supporting the use of technology and broadband to enhance education and school operations.
As part of a nationwide initiative focused on rural communities, primary schools across the county are invited to apply for funding to develop digital learning initiatives, improve classroom technology, or support infrastructure and operational projects that make greater use of broadband connectivity.
The fund is supported by National Broadband Ireland (NBI) and a group of corporate partners involved in the delivery of the Government’s National Broadband Plan, including KPMG, Circet, TLI Group, Entegro, and Obelisk, the RISE Community Fund plans to award cash grants to schools across all 26 counties throughout 2026, in line with the completion of the national broadband fibre rollout.

Under the National Broadband Plan, €145 million is being invested in Co Mayo, covering approximately 37,000 homes, farms, businesses and schools. More than 17,500 premises in the county can already order high-speed fibre broadband. Take-up rates exceed 60 per cent in areas where the network has been available for the longest period.
NBI chairman David McCourt established the RISE Community Fund and has awarded more than 160 cash grants since its launch. Previous funding rounds have supported schools, small businesses, farms, social enterprises and community groups in rural areas that are using technology to expand the reach and impact of their work.
Speaking on the announcement, David McCourt, Chairman of NBI and founder of the RISE Community Fund, said the fund was created to help rural communities connect.
“ As we look ahead to completing the broadband rollout in 2026, we’re delighted to support National Schools in Co Mayo, giving young people in rural communities the tools, skills and opportunities they need to thrive in a digital world.”
TJ Malone, Chief Executive Officer at National Broadband Ireland, added: “The National Broadband Plan is being delivered on time and on budget, and as we move towards its completion in 2026, it’s important that we continue to give back to the communities the project serves.
“Through RISE, NBI, and our partners are proud to support schools in Co Mayo as they explore new ways to use technology to enhance education and improve school environments.”
Applications are open until February 14 and are available at www.riseglobalfoundation.com.
